#9 - Starting Line

Here's as good as any place I now…

It would be good if we could all could just slow down and let the self be found. It's not a race but, on your mark, get set, let go. Take a breath a step at a time, no overthinking trying to find another starting line.

I can only speak for myself but I would venture to guess that some people can relate. I get in my own way and often let a speed bump deter the path like it's a hurdle. Letting the easy excuse stop me from tryin in the first place, which in return protects against failure. You can't fail if you never start, and you can't start if you keep moving the line.

This Songs of 2026 project is my battle against just that. I spent years waiting for the ‘perfect’ song and/or production and/or timing and/or whatever to release music. In all honesty, I was afraid of the inevitable failure from the massive 'success hurdles' I placed in the way. The real failure was the unheard music and resulting lack of momentum to move forward. "Too afraid to look or turn the page on this book"

Phone usage is one of the new main vices on my list. Any little baby shred of resistance - i.e a loading screen, an lackluster idea, trouble thinking of resistance examples in a blog post - all create the impulse to reach for my phone. Every time I pick it up in those situations, the starting line gets moved just a little bit back because, “It's easy too distract, download another app, blow it all off and scroll and loose sight of the soul”
