Better Late…
than never right? ‘Your Own Fool’ was released just about two weeks ago and its bringing me back to my rock roots. I forgot how powerful a back beat and an electric guitar actually are (rhyme). Throw in a little aggression and I believe they call it rock and roll or something like that…
The story behind this one allows for some aggression. I mean, if you woke up to the sound of water leaking only to find the musician (well call him “Mr. Hollywood Boulevard”) you let stay a couple days - at the request of a mutual friend - pissing on your floor, would you be mad? Who would of thought a few beers while getting acquainted and writing a bit of music would lead to their self indulgent tendencies breaking out and them stealing liquor from the cabinet after a night out bar hopping and their frequent bathroom ski trips. In their defense, they did return the liquor all over my floor in a drunken morning stupor.
I wrote this song for the mutual friend whom Mr. Hollywood Boulevard also strained relationships with through a number of occasions. I wanted to remind them that, all Hollywood antics aside, music is what matters. Led Zeppelin wouldn't of gotten away with destroying countless hotel rooms if it wasn't for their music - and money from it. Jim Morrison was kind of a drunken asshole blinded by addiction and too smart for his own good - but gets away with being a mystic pop culture character thanks to the music and lyrics he left behind - as well as branding and our nature to gravitate towards the obscene. The point being that the horse goes before the cart; the art comes before the artist.
As of late, Mr. Hollywood Boulevard is reported to have gone sober and truthfully, I wish them the best. But that won't stop the music or story behind it - or saying, “Hey whats up, remember when you pissed on my floor?” if/when I see them next.
